Folkwaves with Mick and Lester

Latest FOLKWAVES’s Cloudcasts on Mixcloud

Folkwaves

The Folkwaves programme ran for over twenty three years on BBC Radio Derby until they took the strange decision to axe the show at very short notice. In spite of a valiant campaign by fans of the show, it went off the air in December 2010.

Folkwaves had a huge following of music fans across the East Midlands region where the show was syndicated across the BBC East Midlands Network.

In May 2012 we re-launched the programme with Mick Peat and Lester Simpson back behind the microphones but this time on the internet via the UK Folk Music website.

We continued for eight programmes of great music and chat from the lads, which you can hear here. For copyright reasons the programme could not be a ‘podcast’ and downloadable so it was added to Mixcloud.

Mick Peat and Lester Simpson present Folkwaves via UK Folk MusicAlthough the show had a huge dedicated following while it was on local radio, it didn’t transfer across to the internet and we took the decision in December 2012 to bring down the final curtain.

It was with a huge amount of sadness, that I recorded and produced the last ever Folkwaves for the December programme as I have been listening to the show from the start.

As producer of the show, I truly believe that we have lost one of the best Folk Music shows which has ever appeared on UK Radio.

I’m delighted that we are still able to listen and enjoy the music and the banter. I hope you will agree.

Needless to say, if there are any local radio stations in the Derby out there who would like to feature Folkwaves. Mick and Lest might be persuaded to return to the microphone under the right circumstances, please get in touch with us MAIL
